Dr Eleni is a Consultant Oral Surgeon with a specialist role in treatment of teeth that have either previously undergone root canal treatment and are no longer suitable for endodontic retreatment, or need root canal treatment and have an abscess associated with them.
She works closely with the endodontic team in cases where detailed assessment indicates that further root canal intervention is unlikely to achieve a predictable or durable outcome. In these situations, Dr Besi provides definitive surgical care – including complex extraction – to remove the affected tooth and manage the surrounding pathology. These cases frequently involve teeth that present increased technical difficulty due to previous root canal treatment, anatomical considerations, or chronic infection.
Her surgical practice draws on advanced oral surgery techniques to enable controlled removal while minimising trauma to surrounding bone and soft tissues. This is particularly relevant where conventional extraction approaches are insufficient.
In certain clinical situations, infection associated with a tooth may extend beyond the root canal system into the surrounding bone and soft tissues, resulting in abscess formation and bone loss. In these cases, root canal treatment alone may be insufficient to fully resolve the infection. Dr Besi works closely with the endodontic team where a combined approach is required, integrating surgical treatment of the affected area (and bone augmentation where necessary) with root canal therapy to address both the source of infection within the tooth and the surrounding tissues.
Dr Besi places strong emphasis on appropriate case selection, inter-clinician communication, and clear patient explanation, ensuring that surgical intervention follows robust clinical decision-making and forms part of a coordinated treatment pathway.
